House Alteration, Dublin 6, IE
An existing kitchen extension is demolished and a series of small overlapping spaces are provided in a new skewed annex to the north. The gap between the old and new, a courtyard, behaves as a light shaft reflecting light off glazed bricks back to the existing house. A family space connects the garden through to the existing house, a cut in the roof above trapping southerly light deep into the room and framing views of existing mature trees. A new kitchen and WC are tucked under a balcony which leads to a loft. The south facing loft overlooks the new back door and doubles as a fourth bedroom when needed, it sits above a garage which is open and allows a connection between the front and back gardens.
